Respect: Matthew 22:37-39
Have you ever been told you had cooties? Most people have.
Let me show you a cootie detector. Now the reason I know how to make this is because when I was a little boy in school, the kids seem to always say I had cooties.
Let me test some of you. You all have cooties.
How did you get cooties?
How does it feel when someone tells you that you have cooties?
It always made me feel bad. I hated people making fun of me and laughing at me. They said, "Teddy’s got cooties, Teddy’s got cooties."
The truth is that once I learned how to make a cootie catcher, I did the same thing. I told people they had cooties. As a matter of fact all my tests came back that everybody had cooties. Was I wrong?
Being unkind violates some of our values? Which ones and why?
Rules, respect, responsibility, relationship with the Lord, Love of Jesus, Education, education, education.
When we pick on others or when they pick on us are we being respectful?
Are we acting responsibly? Loving?
Do you think the Lord likes us telling others they have cooties?
What other ways can we show kindness to others?
Here's how a cootie catcher can turn into a fun toy.
Instead of cooties, Put words of encouragement in the mouth of the catcher? Example:
Will you be my friend? God Loves you! You’re nice,
Craft: Make NICE Cootie catchers with no cooties!
Matthew 22:37-39
Jesus replied: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ "
